called one of their most wanted turned himself in. clarence johnson is charged with the double shooting that left within person dead and second critically wounded. the man accused of trespassing inside north county high will not get out of custody before his trial. >> it reveal last lot about his state of mind. just thin bouman was caught inside the school with a bottle of methadone. >> he told police he came back to face his force and to check out the security of the school. officers searched bop man's cow and -- bouman's car and they found an ak47. >> all right.

get through the lunch line. >> reporter: success as its down sides. most are operating at over100% capacity. there are so many at hillcrest elementary that teachers and teacher aides have set up that are classrooms in the hallway. the explosion of students come from the fact that more people are moving to the catonsville and hillcrest and others are some of the top schools for reading and math. now they're trying to manage this explosion of students. >> close quarters. we have portables and looking at the number of seats that are needed. next year we'll have additional portables. we're using every space in the building, every nook and corner.

leveled. firefighters worked all night to tamp down the flames and contain the thick black smoke. one person died but officials did not release an identification. more than a dozen people were injured, at left three critically. >> we also can't be sure 100% that we scan account for every single person who may have been at jj's last flight when the incident occurred. >> reporter: investigators are still working to determine what caused the explosion but early evidence indicates a contractor hit an underground gas line. a doctor said he and his employee smelled gas for several hours and it kept growing stronger. >> we finally called the gas company. they came out and checked and said we were above the limit that was healthy and that we needed to evacuate. >> reporter: the explosion hit just minutes later. several inches of snow are forecast for kansas city, adding greater urgency in the

february is american heart month. we're working to raise awareness and keep your heart healthy. abc2 partnered with the university of maryland. today we're joined by dr. brad taylor who's focused on surgery at the university of maryland

medical center. so you get that diagnosis. there is some type of heart disease in the family, either adult or child, and you have to have surgery. how has surgery changed over the years regarding evolving technology? >> cardiac surgery has become much more patient friendly. it's clearly a lot safer to undergo than 10 years ago. the way we conduct cardiac surgery is much less invasive. 10 years ago the risk of having something bad happen to you around the time of the operation was higher. the procedures we do are fairly routine. currently the icu care that's given to patients is -- has gotten down to be pretty routine. most patients are in and out of the hospital in five days. the risks are somewhere around 1% to 12%. in addition, patients with

extremes of diseases are being operated on, extremes of age. 10 years ago it was rare to operate on one 80 or older. often it's notten common that we are operating on people into their 90s. so we can do cardiac surgery safer on older people with a lot of medical conditions. also, a lot of the surgery we're doing is less invasively. we can now do surgery through small incisions, the left side of the chest, right side of the chest, ac setting the valves, using a surgical robot and put different device, to repair or replace mitral valve or the aortic valve. fix aneurysm disease through small incisions in the groin.

that's the story that tells you what it feels like with gusts around 30 still. the wind chill is biting. feeling like 14 in york. 26 in baltimore. 18 in wilmington. how about it tomorrow? we'll lose some of the wind. we'll lack for the numbers to be in the mid to upper 30s but, again, less windy. it will feel a little improved. as you go further site places like anne arundel county, shady side we could get to 40. as much sun if not more sun and less wind before things change again late friday. show you the leading edge of the next weather maker. tomorrow it's about all sunshine, less windy as the corsetles in. we will struggle to get out of the 30s. on friday clouding up. the leading edge of a more significant area of

precipitation that will arrive. temperatures are going to be marginal, meaning we could see rain mixed with snow, a wintry mix type scenario. it will encounter a cold wedge of air. the cold wedge is out there now. look at the wind chill map for the northern u.s. still in full winter mode. 26 above in baltimore. those cold temperatures will continue to settle in tonight, less wets but still struggle to get out of the 30s. as we go beyond thursday. friday we're stuck in the 30s. that's when the weather maker comes in with marginal temperatures. looks like things stay unsettled saturday with cold rain. the approaching storm system toward the four corners, it will develop as we push into friday night. this will linger into our saturday, kind of a slow moving system. if the storm stricts a lot, that

a deer devil racing his motorcycle takes the turn too sharply. he slams into the speedway. the driver suffered two small fractures on his spine but is expected to recover. he was wearing a full leather body suit with a back brace. it protected him from major spinal cord damage. a group of cows didn't become road kill. the cows got loose from a nearby farm and caused a traffic disaster during rush hour. luckily, nobody was hurt.

baltimore police did not have permission to be on the grounds of the rosewood facility when a police trainee died. the baltimore police department admits it knowingly did not have permission and who took the training class to rosewood. >> hundreds of patients have called into the hotline reporting dr. nikita levy. his body was found inside his towson home earlier this week after he reportedly committed suicide. >
